I am a native Texan, born and raised in San Antonio, Texas. After a long and honorable career in the Air Force having retired in Maryland, I now claim Fulshear and Katy ISD as home. My husband and I have 4 children who are special needs, Gifted & Talented, dyslexia students, and musicians. Our oldest graduated in Maryland and our next child is a graduate of Seven Lakes High School. Our remaining children attend Tompkins High School as a Sophomore and 7th grade attending Adams Junior High School.
After researching the best school district to raise our children, we decided that Katy ISD was the standout. In 2014 we settled here and began immersing ourselves in the community. I have served and advocated for the educational needs of our community's children for 6 years as a member and officer in multiple school PTAs including Katy Council of PTAs, and band booster organizations. I was awarded the Texas PTA Honorary Life Membership award. I attended Leadership Katy in 2015 and served on the 2017 Community Bond Advisory Committee. Additionally, I serve as a troop leader in Girl Scouts, with over 12 years of service.
I am a first generation college graduate who deeply understands the value of public education. I’m running for school board because I have personally experienced how quality education positively impacts individual kids, their families, and the entire community. Service to our children is where I want to focus my efforts and energy.
Being elected to the Katy ISD School Board will allow me to continue working and advocating for all of the children that walk our halls. My efforts as a board member will center on serving ALL 84,000+ of the children across Katy ISD; one child is no more important than another. We are a diverse community and must embrace that diversity. Education takes place in our classrooms and our efforts must focus on enhancing and enriching our district. I strongly believe that we have tremendous teachers and staff working with our children and I want to ensure that this support continues and grows.
By working together we can all share in the knowledge and satisfaction that we have provided for the educational needs of all children, and have built a district where students, parents, teachers, and staff feel they are welcome and that they belong. It would be an honor to serve Katy’s outstanding public schools.
